The Art of Low-Waste Hiking

Updated: Jan 7

For us, hiking is a wonderful way to slow down and reconnect with nature. We also strive to minimise waste while enjoying the outdoors. We appreciate moving at our own pace and taking the time to observe our surroundings, which often leaves us feeling a bit hungry.

In this post, we would like to share some tips for low-waste hiking, allowing us to actively express our love and respect for the planet.

1) Reusable Napkins: We took an old kitchen towel and cut it into small squares. It’s that simple! We use them, wash them, and reuse them countless times.

2) Reusable Bottle: We invested in thermal water bottles that keep our drinks cold in the summer and warm in the winter- perfect for enjoying a warm tea on a cool day.

3) Reusable Cup and Cutlery: A simple lunch can turn into a fancy lunch and we like to be well-prepared.

4) Prepare Lunch at Home: There are countless recipes for snacks and sandwiches, making it easy to pack a delicious meal for your hike.

5) Bring Some Fruits: If you have a sweet tooth like we do, fruits are the perfect option. Try to choose seasonal fruits for the best flavour and freshness.

6) Leave No Trace: Whenever possible, we collect trash we encounter along the way.

7) Toilet Kit: We always carry toilet paper, a plastic bag (for the used toilet paper) and a small shovel (so the number 2 can express itself freely).

We shouldn't exploit nature for leisure or greed; instead, we should understand, protect, and live in harmony with it. Adopting a conscious lifestyle can help us achieve this goal. It doesn't take as much time as you might think—watching reels often takes more time. Choose your values wisely.
