How many times have we seen people in films throwing cigarette butts in a very cool way?
Is it so cool in real life?
...
Did you know?
Cigarette butts are the most common form of waste. It's estimated that around 4.5 trillion cigarette butts are disposed of indiscriminately in the environment every year. If you think that's an exaggerated figure, I dare you to just take a look around public transport stops, drinking areas, or public benches.
Though they may appear insignificant, these small objects are incredibly harmful to the environment. Cigarette filters are made of cellulose acetate fibres and, when used, they are full of toxic substances and can take up to 10 years to decompose, releasing toxic chemicals into the soil and water. Moreover, cigarette butts pose a serious threat to both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, as animals often mistake them for food and ingest them.
Unfortunately, it is often much easier to throw a cigarette butt away, as it seems to magically disappear, allowing us to carry on with our day. It's easy. And when it comes to making life easier, everything else comes second.
Can we do something about it? YES!
1. Always carry a pocket ashtray with you. You can buy one or make one. They are lightweight and easy to use. If you would like to obtain one, feel free to contact us or click here.
2. Participate in a cigarette butt clean-up event. This not only helps contribute to your community and promotes a healthier planet, but it also makes you aware of the number of cigarette butts littering the environment. Facing this reality can encourage us to change our habits.
3. Raise awareness about the issue through small actions. Start conversations with family and friends, especially those who may be in the habit of improperly disposing of cigarette butts. Inform them about the negative impact this has on the environment.
4. Wherever you go and whatever you do, make sure to keep the environment clean.
Be cool.
