Who hasn't seen a small plant sprouting through sidewalks, a crack in a concrete wall, or a small gap between the asphalt?
In the most unexpected situations or seemingly inhospitable environments, plants often find a way to flourish. This has to do with the wonderful development of the plant's sensory mechanism, which, through the roots’ tips, can sense microscopic cracks in concrete or asphalt, and then manage to grow in a man-made environment.
These plants demonstrate an excellent storage and resource-seeking capacity, highlighting their tremendous adaptability and resilience. Even against all the odds, plants challenge the circumstances and find ways to deal with the obstacles. In other words, we can say that plants don’t set limits and have incredible determination to survive and grow.
Can’t this be a lesson for us humans?
Either personally or professionally, life is full of obstacles and challenges, and most of the time, we are the ones sabotaging ourselves and limiting our growth. But, one way or another, we have in ourselves what is needed to thrive; we just need to find our way through the “concrete”.
Or maybe it is all just a subtle message from plants showing that we should consider having more plants in our cities.
