Did you know that iNaturalist started as a Master's final project of Nate Agrin?
iNaturalist is a global citizen science platform that we have been using for quite some time, and we really believe in its value.
This platform allows users to submit records of wildlife observations, helping them and all of us learn more about the nature around us. From nature enthusiasts to explorers, iNaturalist is the perfect tool for discovering local flora and fauna. Both the platform and the associated Smartphone App are user-friendly and provide an excellent way to connect with nature while enhancing our knowledge about the wildlife around us.
Most importantly, the data submitted is verified by other users, which is called Community Identification, and can ultimately be utilised for scientific research. This has been proven crucial for many species of several groups throughout the world. And even leading to new species being discovered for science! How cool is that?
By the end of July, in only two and a half months living in Syros, we successfully registered 63 observations of 43 different wild species (28 plants and 15 animals) and had help from 15 other users in confirming these species. We have also helped identify over 540 records.
You've been cool'd!
