Elephants & Plant-based Diets

Updated: Aug 24

Cartoon figure with a mug on a green background, large text "LESSONS FROM THE WILD" with yellow brush strokes. Calm mood.

Did you know that the largest land animal and one of the strongest is the African bush elephant? And that their diet is plant-based?

Herbivores, from the Latin “herba” (small plant, herb) + “vora” (vorare = to eat, devour) are animals that consume high volumes of nutrient-rich plant material (foliage, stems, seeds, fruits, etc.), which provides them with the energy needed.

Other examples of animals with plant-based diets include gorillas, rhinoceroses, and bison! Also, big and strong animals!

SO, if the ELEPHANTS, these big and strong animals, eat their greens, maybe there is something to learn...

Yeah, like what?

We should start making our salads a little bigger and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into our meals, as they are beneficial for us too!
